Ed started training in October 2010 when he rented a small 24 box yard within St Gatien Stables in Newmarket. From there he sent out his first runner which was Riggins, a Listed winner on November 27th 2010.
Since then Ed has grown the business gradually which has seen him relocate no less than four times. His nomadic existence finally came to an end in December 2016 when he and his team settled at Kingsdown Stables in Upper Lambourn.
Ed has trained over 400 winners and has had a Stakes winner every year since taking out his licence. The quality of his string has gradually improved over the years and he finally got that elusive Group 1 winner when Starman won the July Cup in 2021. Almost a year later, Dreamloper landed the Group 1 Prix d'Ispahan at Longchamp, followed by the Group 1 Prix du Moulin de Longchamp, becoming Ed's first dual Group 1 winner.
Ed is an experienced horseman with a hands on approach to training. He prides himself on communication and getting to know his horses, staff and owners. Not from a racing back ground but brought up riding, he caught the bug early on thanks to his parent's passion for horses and racing. Educated at Radley College, Ed knew from an early age that training racehorses was what he wanted to do. His apprenticeship started at Watership Down Stud and took him to Australia and France before coming home to work for Roger Charlton followed by Luca Cumani whom he was assistant to for four years. Like both Roger and Luca, Ed has an individual approach to training and prides himself on placing his horses in the right races.
Ed has settled at Kingsdown Stables with his wife Camilla and their three children Matilda, Rupert and Harry.
