Derby Day

Waipiro lines up in the 2023 Epsom Derby today. A huge occasion for the team and The Siu family.  I think he will handle the track and the occasion. He can get a bit warm at home and I wouldn’t be worried seeing him get a bit warm in the preliminaries. Military Order was dominant in the last 100 yards at Lingfield and we are going to have to make another significant step forward to beat him, but I don’t think it is impossible for him to turn it around. I certainly wouldn’t put anyone off having an each-way bet on him!

Random Harvest runs in the Group 3 Princess Elizabeth Stakes at Epsom. She is in cracking form and looks great. This is a strong race but I am hopeful she will leave that disappointing start at Newmarket behind her.

Mountain Peak is drawn 13 in the Epsom Dash so hopefully he gets a good break. He has come down 3lbs from York and he has got Tom on board which is a bonus. We know this race suits him and he seems in good form so fingers crossed.

Came From The Dark also takes his chance in the Dash. He was obviously disappointing last season but was 3rd on his last outing at Newmarket so it will be interesting to see how he gets on today.

I am looking forward to seeing Miss Roberts run today at 2.50 at Doncaster. 6 and a half furlongs should be fine, stepping up in trip slightly. Drawn 3, it is a red hot race but of those who have run she is the pick. Oops, George Boughey's horse got pretty close to her at Newmarket but I would expect Miss Roberts to improve from debut.

Bauhina Rhapsody makes his handcap debut day and is lightly raced. This looks an open race so I hope he can break his maiden.

Cotai Vision makes her debut at Lingfield. 5f will suit and she has a good draw so hopefully she can be positive and make a good start.

Libra Tiger should suit the fast 6f at Lingfield. Billy Loughnane knows him well and he is drawn 2 which is fine. I think he has a good chance in this so hopefully we can get him back to winning ways.

Best of luck to all owners today and fingers crossed for a successful day! Pictured below is Charles and Waipiro. Charles is our Head Lad and rides Waipiro everyday at home.
