Waipiro an impressive winner at Newmarket
Our Derby entrant Waiprio turned what looked a hot Novice Stakes at Newmarket into a procession yesterday under Tom Marquand. He is the half-brother to Hong Kong Group One winner Waikuku and had finished sixth of 13 on his only start last year at Kempton behind Simon and Ed Crisford’s Wigmore Street. As a result he was sent off the outsider of the whole field against three previous winners yesterday but powered home in impressive style.
Many congratulations to his owner Mr Siu and all the team at home.
Today we have 4 runners at our local track Newbury:
Popmaster (14.05) has been really well this spring and I am very happy with him. I think he can run a big race today and hopefully the ground will not be an issue for him.
I am really looking forward to seeing Loddon today (14.40) although it is a hugely competitive maiden with some very smart pedigrees on display. She has done plenty of work and Saffie knows her well. She has a terrible draw but hopefully she wont get stuck too far back or wide.
Arkendale (15.15) looks great and has strengthened through the winter. We know he loves this ground and I hope they do get a little more rain. It is a red hot race and we will learn plenty today so fingers crossed for a good performance.
Just A Notion makes her debut today (16.55) and this looks a good introduction. Hopefully the ground won’t be too testing for her.
